Arcane Defense is a firm that supports the club. They teach the Canadian Restricted Firearms Safety Course and Canadian Firearms Safety Course and offer other services of interest to club members.

If you don't yet have your Restricted PAL (RPAL), it's highly recommended to get it. Having an RPAL means that you can borrow or lease a handgun, even if you missed the transfer deadline. It also means you can pursue an Olympic exemption letter and purchase a handgun as detailed here and here by participating in our monthly handgun bullseye matches.

If you have your RPAL but know anyone interested in getting their RPAL, please pass this on. The link is below.

CSSA Club Level Safety Instructor Course (2026-10-03)

This is from the CSSA newsletter. The CHC board encourages eligible members to complete the course if they would like to assist with training new club members. The CHC board would like to track interest in our candidates taking this course to put members in contact with each other for car pooling, etc. The course cost is reimbursed by CHC upon successful completion of the course. Registration in this event using the buttons will simply email the board member tracking your interest; it does not actually register you for the course. You must contact CSSA to register yourself for the course as per the instructions below.

Club Level Safety Instructor Course

– Saturday, October 3, 2026 –

Description –

This course prepares candidates to train fellow club members (at clubs in which the candidate holds a membership) in firearm safety.

The Club Level Safety Instructor Course reviews the ACTS-PROVE method used in the Canadian Firearms Safety Course/Canadian Restricted Firearms Safety Course. Students will also learn about methods of instruction in firearm safety and topics to be include when teaching at their club.

Prerequisites –

Must hold a valid RPAL, be a CSSA member in good standing and have 1 year of shooting experience.

Length – 8 hours – Classroom-only program – NO live fire.

Cost – $90

Range Safety Officer Course

– Sunday, October 4, 2026 –

Description –

This one-day course is designed to train candidates to conduct a safe and informal firing line for the local gun club. It is a generic program for use with sports shooters who are not in a specific discipline. It is not intended to replace any current safe practices but to enhance and refresh all current and future Range Safety Officers and Line Safety Officers in their duties and responsibilities at the local level.

The purpose of this program is to ensure that all Range Officers are trained to the same standard, making for an improved shooting experience for our membership.

Prerequisites –

Must hold a valid RPAL, be a CSSA member in good standing and have 1 year of shooting experience.

Length – 6 hours - this is a classroom-only program at this location – NO live fire.

Cost – $85
