CHC Olympic-Style Rimfire Pistol Bullseye Build and Worker Shoot R4 (2026-09-25)

Build and Worker Shoot day for Match Day which will be shot in the same format as Match Day once the range is set up by the volunteer workers, but with an earlier start.

For the purposes of an exemption letter, shooting on both Build Day and Match day is considered 2 unique matches as the scores are recorded seperately.

Paid competitors are permitted to shoot on Build Day at regular price if Match Day does not fit their schedule, is full, or if they wish to shoot in 2 matches, and will begin shooting on a first come, first served basis once the range is set up, followed by the workers.

CHC ISSF-Style Rimfire Rifle Bullseye Match R3 (2026-09-26)

The event is open to anyone with a rimfire rifle, it can be grandpa's old .22LR, it can be a bolt, semi-auto or lever and everything between that can fire a round every 3 seconds on average - it doesn't need to be a special gun. Divisions are iron sights and optics. You are permitted to register a second gun in a different division.

Gear up is at 9:30 with first shot at 10 am. The match will last approximately 2 hours. There are 5 shooting lanes to cycle shooters through. All shooters will cycle through to shoot one position before moving onto the next position.

There will be 3 positions of shooting (kneeling, prone and standing) with 20 rounds per position, plus sighters prior to the timed groups. The 20 rounds for each position are broken into 4 groups of 5 rounds for each of the 4 scoring bullseyes. The times for each group are 2 minutes, 1 minute, 30 seconds, and 15 seconds respectively for each of the 4 groups of 5 rounds.

No bipods are permitted for the prone position, shooting is only off the elbows. If someone is mobilitry-impaired, they can shoot the entire match from a seated position.

Round count is thus 60 rounds plus sighters. The match will be approximately as described here minus the final round.

Bring a mat or equivalent to shoot prone as well as your eye and ear protection.

Official targets will be provided, the cost for the match is $10 (incl. HST) to cover the 3 official targets per competitor (one for each position). This will display $8.85 before HST, but the total to be paid will be shown as $10.

Range officers and other volunteers are needed, please sign up for a free Volunteer ticket. If you register as a volunteer who works on Match Day, you can sign up to shoot for free on Build Day.

Paid competitors are permitted to shoot on Build Day at regular price if Match Day does not fit their schedule or is full.

Competitor limit is 10.

CHC Olympic-Style Rimfire Pistol Bullseye Match R4 (2026-09-26)

Competing yearly in Olympic-Style Rimfire Pistol Bullseye is part of the path to getting an exemption letter to purchase a handgun (Note that we have been advised by the Shooting Federation of Canada (SFC) that rifle bullseye experience doesn't count towards satisfying the requirements for an exemption letter). If you intend to pursue an exemption letter, you need to join the Shooting Federation of Canada here before you start as a new competitor. The steps are here and here. You will need a minimum of 3 match results each year which must be attained at a minimum of 2 clubs total. Build Day and Match day are considered 2 separate matches.

The event is open to anyone and you can bring paid guests who can compete.

You can bring your own rimfire handgun that can fire a round every 2 seconds on average - it doesn't have to a match grade pistol - any rimfire revolver or semi-auto pistol will do. Note - if you plan on competing at a different club which is required to get a letter, iron sights, maximum 153mm/6" barrel and maximum 220mm/8.6" sight radius will likely be required.

If you do not have access to a handgun, you can add a club handgun rental to your ticket for $10 including HST - just bring your own .22LR ammo.

If you need instructions on how to legally borrow a handgun from another person (not a business or the club), let us know (it's very easy) and then you don't need to rent a club handgun if you prefer to practice ahead of time on your own.

Please arrive 30 minutes prior to your ticketed time to unpack your gear. Gear up is at 11:30 am with first shot at noon for the first squad. Each squad will take approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes to shoot all their sighters and stages starting at their ticketed time. There are 5 shooting lanes to cycle shooters through and thus 5 tickets per time slot.

Last squad starts at 3:45 pm.

The course of fire is ISSF 25m standard pistol.

At the start of the match the competitor may fire unlimited sighting shots within 150 seconds. Bring a spotting scope if you intend to make some last second adjustments to your sights or want to see where you are hitting in general.

The 60-shot match is divided into 5-shot strings with different timings:

Stage 1 - 4 strings of 5 rounds each within 150 seconds for each string – competitor can begin the series in any fashion they choose.

Stage 2 - 4 strings of 5 rounds each within 20 seconds for each string – competitor must begin each string with the pistol in one outstretched arm from the 45-degree angle starting position.

Stage 3 - 4 strings of 5 rounds each within 10 seconds for each string – competitor must begin each string with the pistol in one outstretched arm from the 45-degree angle starting position. It's a good idea to practice a cadence of approximately 1 shot per second to allow for initial sight alignment.

If someone is mobility-impaired, they can shoot the entire match from a seated position.

Official SFC targets will be provided, the cost for the match is $10 including HST per competitor to cover the 4 official targets plus sufficient centre patches (one for sighting and one for each target for Stages 2 and 3). This displays as $8.85+HST, with the rental option noted above during checkout. You can keep your targets at the end of the match.

CHC Action Handgun Practice is held on Range 4 unless unavailable and then we find another range. Setup starts at around 2:30 pm and practice finishes up around 6 pm unless we need to stay longer. Practicing Action Handgun requires a CHC Holster course or IPSC Handgun Black Badge.

If enough attendees want to practice Steel Challenge instead, we can set up Steel Challenge Practice on the other range as well - your selection of a Steel Challenge ticket will send an e-mail to steel_match@cornwallhandgunclub.ca to let us know.

Live Fire training is available on Action Handgun Practice days and is generally conducted at an adjacent range.

Club Level Safety Instructor Course

This course prepares candidates to train fellow club members (at clubs in which the candidate holds a membership) in firearm safety.

The Club Level Safety Instructor Course reviews the ACTS-PROVE method used in the Canadian Firearms Safety Course/Canadian Restricted Firearms Safety Course. Students will also learn about methods of instruction in firearm safety and topics to be include when teaching at their club.

Prerequisites –

Must hold a valid RPAL, be a CSSA member in good standing and have 1 year of shooting experience.

Length – 8 hours – Classroom-only program – NO live fire.

Live Fire Training with James Burnside (2026-10-03)

Live Fire training and Range Orientation with James Burnside is conducted at Range 1 or Range 2/4 if available. The ranges remain open for other members to use at the same time.

The training guns for this session are a choice of 9 mm or .22LR, so bring the appropriate ammo or be prepared to pay for it if you are not bringing your own handgun.

Once you finish your classroom session, you can book Live Fire Training. A range orientation does not need to wait for the classroom. Do not book Live Fire Training without completing the classroom session as there are critical skills and information you need to know before completing Live Fire Training. You only need one range orientation, but you will need multiple live fire sessions.

Please be sure to register for your desired live fire time, as well as a range orientation if you need one - don't just show up without an appointment. You can book up to 2 live fire sessions per day. The title and number of tickets per time slot tell you how many instructors are available. If there is only one instructor and you book 2 live fire sessions in the same day with the same instructor, be sure to leave some time between sessions to pause and reflect on what you've learned. 2 live fire sessions with different instructors can be booked back to back.

Please arrive before your scheduled time to get geared up.

If you want to be added as an instructor for this session, select the 'I want to instruct' ticket, which is why you are receiving this e-mail if you are an instructor.

**USE the waitlist if the timeslots are full. We will do our best to add more instructors based on waitlist signups. If you don't waitlist, we won't know there is demand.**

This one-day course is designed to train candidates to conduct a safe and informal firing line for the local gun club. It is a generic program for use with sports shooters who are not in a specific discipline. It is not intended to replace any current safe practices but to enhance and refresh all current and future Range Safety Officers and Line Safety Officers in their duties and responsibilities at the local level.

The purpose of this program is to ensure that all Range Officers are trained to the same standard, making for an improved shooting experience for our membership.

Prerequisites –

Must hold a valid RPAL, be a CSSA member in good standing and have 1 year of shooting experience.

Length – 6 hours - this is a classroom-only program at this location – NO live fire.

CHC Club Holster Training R4 (2026-10-10)

A Club-level Holster Training Course will be held at CHC.

Start time will be 8:30 AM sharp. There are only 12 student spots available and 6 instructor spots available. If the course fills up with 12 students, a second date will be offered. Once a second date opens, you will be permitted to change dates.

There will be two portions to this course, if needed.

The first session will certify members to carry a holstered, unloaded handgun while changing targets during bullseye style shooting. No ammunition is required for this portion.
The second portion will introduce you to the skills and techniques required to safely use a holster at our club while participating in CHC Club Level action shooting events and practices (not sanctioned events, where a formal accreditation is required).

There is no cost for the course itself.

ELIGIBILITY You must be a CHC member in good standing and have successfully completed the Club’s new member training program.

EQUIPMENT REQUIREMENTS:

Carry only Session:
·       Any handgun of any caliber.
·       A belt-mounted hip holster that holds the handgun snugly and covers the trigger
·       If your holster has a retention device, you must be familiar with it. No trigger-finger push button release (i.e. Blackhawk! Serpa) style holsters unless the button is removed.  Thumb operated retention devices are okay (i.e. Safariland ALS, thumbreak straps)
·       No flap holsters, drop leg/thigh holsters, shoulder holsters, chest rigs or cross-draw holsters.
·       Your holster must permit you to draw and holster your handgun using only your shooting hand.
·       NO AMMUNITION is required for this session, which will take about an hour.

Full Session:
·       A centerfire (9mm or larger) semi-auto pistol or revolver that you are familiar with and can shoot accurately.  No .22LR caliber firearms.
·       3 or more magazines for your pistol, or speed loaders if using a revolver
·       100 (minimum) to 200 rounds of reliable ammunition.
·       A belt-mounted hip holster that holds the handgun snugly and covers the trigger
·       If your holster has a retention device, you must be familiar with it. No trigger-finger push button release (i.e. Blackhawk! Serpa) style holsters unless the button is removed.  Thumb operated retention devices are okay (i.e. Safariland ALS, thumbreak straps)

·       Please bring equipment you are sure is reliable and you are familiar with. The course will begin with an equipment check.  We reserve the right to refuse to train you with what we consider to be unsafe equipment.
·       Eye and ear protection are mandatory and a hat/ballcap is recommended.

MANDATORY Equipment and Training Pre-check: If you are unsure if your equipment is suitable, at least one Safety Instructor will be available at the Club IPSC or Steel Practices as per the calendar, or any other day by appointment, prior to the course, between 3:00 PM and 8:00 PM to inspect and give tips and advice. You must advise them in advance if you need an equipment check by selecting an equipment check ticket from this event or registering for a practice here or by making an appointment with an instructor here. As noted above, if you are known to the instructors, this can likely be done by e-mail.

Rentals: As some members are unable to acquire a handgun, but are eligible to borrow a handgun, Arcane Defense will be supporting this holster course with equipment rentals. Cost would be $40 for the day. Please contact Eric Bouffard of Arcane Defense to arrange a rental. Ammunition will also be available. Please contact Eric to arrange to purchase ammunition

We are excited to announce that the RA Gun Club (RAGC) and Cornwall Handgun Club (CHC) are working in partnership to provide a bullseye match on October 24 at the RA Gun Club for our respective members. The RAGC has committed to review its schedule of activities to identify dates and times to hold additional matches.

Each squad will take approximately 1 hour to shoot all their sighters and stages starting at their ticketed time. There are 4 shooting lanes to cycle shooters through and thus 4 tickets per time slot.

8 am and 9 am time slots are reserved for RA Members so they can be free to volunteer for the rest of the day. The remaining time slots are open to anyone.

The Range will be unavailable from noon to 1:30 pm.

Last squad starts at 8:30 pm.

What is Smallbore F-Class?

F-Class is the brain child of the late Canadian riflemen George “Farky” Farquharson, for whom the discipline is named. Farquharson developed the sport in the early 1990s as an outlet for high power shooters, “of a certain age”, who were facing the challenges of diminished eyesight, reflexes, and strength in sling shooting, yet wished to continue competing.

His idea was to use scopes and bipods to shoot at a smaller target than the sling shooters at long range. F-Class has caught on with multiple segments of the shooting community, and it is growing rapidly as a shooting discipline. This shooting style has now advanced to include rimfire shooting where the .22 Long Rifle cartridge is used, hence the name Smallbore F-Class, which simulates the experience of fullbore F-class by using smaller targets and shorter distances (50-100 yards for smallbore vs 300-1000 yards for fullbore) with the apparent bullseye size for 100 yards being the same as the apparent bullseye size for 1000 yards. This competition is also governed by the NRA Smallbore Rifle Rules and shooters are classified.

Classification is assigned after the first shoot based on the individual’s scores. Classifications are designed to have individuals compete for standing and awards against others of similar shooting ability.

What do I need for equipment?

No elaborate equipment is needed for competition and any rifle chambered for .22LR, with a rifle scope and a bipod mounted will work fine. A shooting mat, or substitute, rounds out the basic equipment that’s needed.

If you own a .22LR rimfire rifle, you probably already have all the equipment that you need to start. (Rifles with tubular magazines are prohibited however but bolt action and semi-autos are allowed).

What is the course of fire?

The course of fire is the “Dewar” course of fire and its 20 shots at 50 yards and 20 at 100 yards to form an aggregate

Shooting is done from the prone position. Time limit is 20 minutes per Stage.

Everyone is welcome including ladies and young folks. The focus of these events is to bring new shooters into the sport and introduce club members to the joy of shooting a .22LR calibre rifle in competition as well as provide a practice venue for our existing shooters. Our league (CHC, EOSC, and more) now over 109 classified shooters comprising male and female adults as well as several junior shooters.

Special CHC New Member Classroom Training for RPAL Holders ONLY (2026-10-25)

This is a special RPAL-Only Class, meaning you must have passed the CRFSC test to attend this special class, which will be shorter than usual because we are not teaching RPAL material to PAL holders that have never learned it before, and is followed by a paid Steel Match at the range that counts as your first two Live Fire Training sessions.

If you have not passed the CRFSC test, please book the next classroom session here.

Completion of this classroom training is mandatory for new members. If you cannot make this date, or this date is full, please choose another date. There is one almost every month. There is no cost for Classroom Training.

The hours are 9:00 AM until approximately 5:00 PM. Please be on time. There is a lot of material to cover.

This New Member Safety Course will be conducted in a classroom setting. This course will be conducted according to the curriculum set by the Canadian Shooting Sports Association (CSSA). This will conclude with a written exam, followed by a trip to the range for a Live Fire Training as part of a Steel Challenge Event.

If for any reason you will be arriving late or won't make it due to unforeseen circumstances, please cancel your registration. The online cancellation is critical as the system will automatically contact the next person on the waiting list, so they can attend, and so we are not waiting for you if you won't be attending.

2026 Sunday Range Opening Dates

As per the shooting range bylaw, we are allowed to apply to be able to shoot on 6 Sundays per year, same hours as Saturday (10 am - 5 pm), 3 of which are allowed to be from June 1 to August 31 . Our board has selected the following dates which correspond with existing matches/rentals, the request has been received by the township and approved:

June 21 (CHC IPSC L2 Handgun Match, Ranges 2 and 4)

July 26 (CHC IPSC OSS L2 Shotgun Match, Ranges 2 and 4)

August 16 (CHC IPSC L2 Handgun Match, Ranges 2 and 4)

September 13 (No Event Planned, All Ranges Open)

October 25 (CHC Steel Challenge Match, Ranges 2 and 4)

November 1 (CHC IPSC L2 Shotgun Match, Range 4)

Of course, our members are able to use the remaining ranges on those Sundays, and Ranges 1 and 3 are always available for member use (except for open house days), so if Sundays are easier for you to get to the range, definitely mark these dates in your own calendar.

CHC Steel Challenge Practice R2 (and Live Fire Training) (2026-10-29)

CHC Steel Challenge Practice is held on Range 2 unless unavailable and then we find another range. Setup starts at 3:00 pm and practice ends around 6 pm unless we need to stay longer.

Steel Challenge Practice is a great way for a new member to get practice with their gun in a fun manner, and also great practice for experienced shooters.

Live Fire training is conducted at Steel Challenge Practice or at an adjacent range if 1-on-1 is required or if you are a new shooter and require easier targets.
